The Balanced Man Program
"The Fraternity is one of the most skillfully devised institutions among men, where a boy disorganized is brought into an institution of kindred spirits who believe in him and thereby help him to find himself. The Fraternity makes men."
-Reverend Norman Vincent Peale

What sets SigEp apart from the rest of the Greek world is its unique member development program. SigEp has done away with the pledge system and has replaced it with a new way to foster and promote the growth of its members - The Balanced Man Program.

The Balanced Man Program is the first step in the lifelong Journey of Brotherhood and centers on the Balanced Man Ideal of "Sound Mind, Sound Body" to provide a way for you to live your best life. The talents and skills that brought you to college are only a step to the next level, and The Balanced Man Program will help you to define what that next level is for you while you are in college. It will provide you with the skill-sets to help you succeed in life and will be there, through the support of your brothers, to help you push your potential to its limits.

The Balanced Man Program is hands-down one of the most revolutionary programs SigEp has produced. SigEp decided that degrading new members to allow them the opportunity to prove themselves was not the best means to build a better man. A new approach was formed where the new member began his journey to excellence from day one. The goal of this new system was to "transform the pledging process from that of proving worthiness to that of achievement in the chapter and community."

SigEp wanted something that would appeal to a different kind of student --- one with high ideals, aspirations, morals, and personal goals. SigEp also wanted a program that would make a man a better person for having joined our Fraternity. What resulted is what you now see before you in the form of The Balanced Man Program.

Based on the ancient Greek philosophy of "Sound Mind, Sound Body," The Balanced Man Program encourages a life of balance, first and foremost, and provides a fun, practical way to achieve that balance through a self-paced series of Challenges that center on personal growth and development. Each Challenge begins with a Rite of Passage that takes you through a part of our Fraternity's Ritual. Each Rite of Passage is a solemn ceremony that relates our Cardinal Priniciples of Virtue, Diligence, and Brotherly Love to your personal development as a Balanced Man and solidifies your place in our brotherhood.

Within the Balanced Man Program, SigEps are exposed to leadership, experiential learning, personal development, mentoring, and other positive activities that focus on a core of universal respect and balanced living. Member expectations are based on experience level in the academic, campus and personal aspects of their lives and link those to the value and ritual of our fraternity.

You will learn more of the mysteries of Sigma Phi Epsilon with each Rite of Passage and develop a better understanding of what you will accomplish throughout the next Challenge.

"A sound mind in a sound body, is a short, but full description of a happy state in this World: he that has these two, has little more to wish for; and he that wants either of them, will be little the better for anything else."
-John Locke
